Day Accomplished

So, it's bedtime and we did EXCELLENT today! Since the last post earlier today, dad had a small snack at the mall and we came home and I made the fajitas. The snack only consisted of a side (or probably about a cup) of mixed vegetables-broccoli, carrots, celery, and mushrooms from a to-go chinesse place in the food court. I counted that as about 100 calories, even though it probably wasn't even that much, but I just wanted to be safe. Now for the fajita count:

2 tomato-basil tortilla shells (the burrito sized ones for that matter!)-200 calories
1/2 Tomato- 18
Onions, this is just a guesstimate- 15 (a whole onion is 64 and I didn't even use 1/4 of it, so that sounds about right)
1 tsp olive oil-30
1 tsp fajita seasoning-10
Chicken-200 (without a scale yet it was hard to count this one, but the whole package was 500, and he proabably had about 1/3 of it, so again, rounding up a little.....just to be safe)
5 tbls. taco sauce-50

Dinner=523

So, today's total-

Breakfast 333
Lunch 285
Snack 100
Dinner 523

For a GRAND TOTAL of: 1,241 calories!!
YEAH! I'm so proud........

............oh yeah, did I also mention that he walked a little over a mile today without stopping? Pretty good for someone who hasn't been exercising like they should!

Now kind of off the subject, but here's two cute pictures I took today, one of my baby on Grandpa's lap, and the other of my dad's newest pets...sugar gliders. I must say, they're pretty darn cute!

Awww....the sugar gliders ARE cute! About the dinner and the snack: YAY! So, I'm wondering: Has he been hungry? Have you told him how few calories he's had, and can he even believe it?? I bet he could get used to that, huh!
One little warning: I'd try not to get that low on the calories again. I know it's hard to figure out how many you'll have later in the day, but having 1500-1700 calories like your dad is having, you should figure that the first half of the day, he should have at least half of the available calories. Probably 2/3 of them even on most days (that's about 1100, based on a 1700 cal diet). Unless you're going out to eat, I'd be sure he's only got 1/3 of the avaiable calories leftover for dinner if I were you. If you're going out to eat, feed him less for breakfast/lunch, so that you'll have plenty leftover to use when you're out to eat.
So, I know you gave him more than enough to fill him up yesterday morning, and for lunch...so maybe just allow a higher calorie snack, or perhaps a nice glass of milk alongside breakfast - just to get in those calories in the first half of the day.
But...I'd say for being really only your second day of counting calories for someone else, you're doing EXCELLENT! Just think: The more you do it, the easier it gets. You'll be a calorie-counting pro in a couple more weeks!
And one mile without stopping? I'd say that IS good news! Keep that up! You'll be telling us he can walk 3 miles without stopping before long! :)
